Cathy Dowden and Karen Anderson are Melbourne-based Alexander Technique teachers, both graduates of the School for F.M. Alexander Studies and registered with the Australian Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AUSTAT).
Cathy Dowden has been in private practice since graduating in 2018, working with musicians and performers who want to move, breathe and play with greater ease and confidence. She has presented workshops at folk and roots festivals including CresFest, Maldon Folk Festival and Cygnet Folk Festival. Her approach is calm, practical and collaborative, supporting musicians to recognise and release unhelpful tension patterns while developing sustainable technique and expressive freedom.
Karen Anderson runs a private practice and teaches at 16th Street Actors Studio, Howard Fine Acting Studio and Federation Universityโs Arts Academy, and has also taught at the VCA Faculty of Fine Arts and Music. She brings a rich background as a professional circus artist, along with experience in martial arts, yoga and performance. Known for her warmth and Irish wit, Karen is passionate about helping students gain freedom from old patterns and supporting artists to realise their full creative potential. For her, the Alexander Technique is a quiet and profound life changer.
