Private Alexander Technique Lessons
Personalised, one-to-one support for comfortable movement, reduced tension, and confident daily functioning
Private Alexander Technique lessons offer individualised guidance to help you move, sit, stand, breathe, and perform with less unnecessary effort. Working one-to-one allows lessons to be tailored to your needs — whether you’re addressing pain, stress, balance, coordination, performance challenges, or habits that interfere with everyday life.

How private Alexander Technique lessons work
Private lessons are practical, exploratory, and paced to suit you. Rather than exercises or posture correction, the Alexander Technique is an educational process — helping you recognise and change patterns of tension and holding that affect how you move and function.
Lessons typically involve:
Experiential learning about organising your body from ground to crown
Learning to cooperate with gravity, rather than resist it
A gentle body–mind reset toward a more neutral, supported state
Improving your internal “map” of how your body moves, folds, and balances
Developing skills you can apply independently, when you choose
Teaching is offered through verbal guidance, demonstration, and gentle hands-on work (always optional).
What we work with in lessons
Everyday activities are used as learning tools, including:
Sitting, standing, walking, and lying down
Transitions such as getting in and out of chairs, cars, or up from the floor
Workplace and daily-use tasks (desk, laptop, phone, kitchen activities)
You’re also welcome to bring specific activities or interests, such as:
Musical instruments, singing, or performance preparation
Exercise or movement practices
Sport-related actions
Yoga or other embodied disciplines
Lessons are collaborative, curious, and often playful — focused on learning rather than “fixing”.
Hands-on work and table work
Many lessons include time lying on your back on a massage table, fully clothed. This allows:
Reduction of habitual muscular tension, especially through the spine
Gentle guidance and movement to support awareness and coordination
A quieter environment for noticing change
This is always adapted to your comfort and choice.
Guidance can be without touch if you prefer.
What to expect
You can expect:
A safe, respectful, and comfortable environment
A lesson shaped around your goals, interests, and pace
Time to observe and explore your own movement habits
Clear, practical guidance you can apply outside the lesson
Cathy’s aim is not dependence, but skill-building — supporting you to use Alexander Technique principles independently over time.
What to wear
Lessons are fully clothed (usually shoes off)
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy movement
What to bring (optional)
Anything you’d like the lesson to focus on (instrument, laptop, sheet music, exercise program)
